I'd like to give someone a going away present that will be useful while he is there. Something that he'll use and think of me. But I'm not sure if they are allowed to bring many personal items in. Any ideas?

If it is going with them to boot camp. They do not let them have access to outside objects during training. The objects and clothes are issued. There is some items like stationary, pen, envelopes, standard bars of soap, handkerchief, picture of a good nature. Hope that helps

If it's anything like military bootcamp, he won't really be able to have anything . . .maybe just get him a nice card and write him while he's in, and then get him a graduation present.
