Is there a region set on video cameras like Sony Handycam?

I am thinking about buying a video cam corder that records directly to DVD before I leave the states for Europe, but I am wondering if it will be useless in Europe because it will be region 1? Or does it not matter to the cam corder what DVD you use with it?

I am not aware of any camcorder that has this option but most of the televisions and DVD players do have option to play NTSC or PAL. PAL is for europe and NTSC for USA.
