Keeshonds are a terrific breed for someone who wants a companion - they don't do well confined to yards and can become noisy and destructive. They're great with kids, but like with any breed, kids need to be taught how to behave around a dog.

Their coats are actually very easy to look after - all they need is a thorough grooming every week or two. Males shed once a year and females twice, so you might want to groom more often then to get out the dead fur (a keeshond has fur, not hair).

It's also not a breed that requires a great deal of exercise - if you want a dog to go running with, a keeshond's not for you. They are susceptible to a few health problems, so you need to be careful that you're buying from a reputable breeder who screens for these problems before breeding.

I dont have any experience with them, but I would suggest extensive research on the breed. Try www.akc.org or other kennel clubs that have recognized the breed.

I used to show them. I have one old girl left that was a great obedience dog! They can be very wild and bouncy, so make sure to take yours to classes.

Do you have any specifis questions?
