~ I assume that you are asking about a tooth that has had root canal. If you are, here is the real answer.
The pain is NOT from inside the tooth. It is from the swelling and infection in the bone at the end of the tooth. Taking the nerve out (or what remains of the nerve) is just done so that we can seal the end of the tooth so that the body can heal the damage in the bone. This takes a while. Root canal treatment is not a magic wand that instantly makes you feel better. It is just the first step in what will then allow your body to heal. The healing can take a while, especially if you had a good sized abscess on the tooth.

It still hurts because that is what is is nerves and it effects the whole system it is like having an amputation and you can still feel the pain and limp. Part of it is still in our mind and the other nerves are very painful and shoot through the body. It will go in time and if not go back to dentist. Once mine did not I suffered for a week and I needed antibiotics as it had become infected. Give it two days no more or if it is so bad go back next day.
Oil of cloves is good for any dental pain and is natural it numbs the pain taste like pants but does work. You can buy from chemist and put it on cotton bud failing that whiskey also does the same if you dip a bud in it and place it over pain.
Sainsbury sell for £10 a temporally dental kit.

It's called "phantom" pain. Amputees still sometimes still "feel" their missing member. There is debate over just what causes it. It is thought that some types of nerve damage increase the risk of feeling phantom pain. Not all amputees feel this, and for most people, it diminishes over time.
I can tell you from personal experience that phantom pain is not reserved for amputees. I had extensive dental work done prior to getting my dentures. I mentioned my phantom pain to my dentist and, although somewhat surprised that I knew the term, verified that it does occur even in dental patients.
Talk to your dentist, he may prescribe something to help you over the "hump" if the pain is too much and lasts too long.
If you want to know more about phantom pain, type in "phantom pain" in your search box. You will get a bunch of sites.

I have just had a root canal and my tooth is killing too!!! My dentist told me this would happen but it should get better. If it doesnt after a week, they will prescribe you antibiotics and this will make the pain go away. I am waiting to see if it gets better over the weekend otherwise i will be going back - its agony!!!

For the past 3 years I have suffered daily with neuropathy. Well it’s been just 1 week and I just cannot put into words how brilliant my results have been. I have absolutely no more hyper sensitivity and no more agonizing burning pains. I can’t explain it, but this thing works. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing your secret with me.

Stupid idea. Peroxide won't kill nerves. Take Advil and use Orajel.
