I know we can't just leave it the way it is now, but from the start, the expectations, the justifications, the planning, the ungodly cost, the fact that there is no end for us in sight at all and the country is on the brink of absolute collapse and civil war, the number of civilian casualties, can anyone argue that the war an absolute horrible mess and that if we knew five years ago what we know now, we would have left Saddam right where he was?

Yes.

Link 1 good news in Iraq

link 2. "Witness in Saddam Hussein's trial recalls villagers screaming after CHEMICAL attack". WMD hummm notice how Saddam's trial has just coincidentally dropped off the main stream media radar. They don't want to talk about the hundreds of thousands of people saddam killed. got to make you wonder what else they don't want to tell you.

Are you promoting the new book which has just been released about the build up and execution of ther Iraq conflict called oddly enough "Fiasco"?

Your question does sound like a synopsis.

I am not a Bush supporter as thankfully not being American I don't have to make a choice from the line up of clowns you nominate for President, but I guess you could call me a patriot and a conservative and I would say that the current situation is a fiasco but so was the bay of pigs (Democrat) Vietnam (Democrat), Clintons random cruise missile attacks on Kabul to try and get Bin Laden in 1997 (Democrat).

So I dont see the point of trying to link the fiasco with a cheap political point.

We are all in this together now, Democrats Republicans, Yanks and Brits and we need to work together to find a way to fix it and not keep moaning and trying to take lumps out of each other.

The war in Iraq has become a burden on our country, we should not have invaded knowing what we know now, but hindsight is always 20/20. Given the knowledge at the time it was the right decision, and now we cannot leave that country in crisis, we must win, we must defeat the insurgency there or it will be a stain on our national conscience for the rest of our existence. Also it was the right thing to do to remove Saddam from power and if we win it will have been worth it.

I'd leave out the words "complete," and "absolute." They are over-statements...but I do agree that Iraq is a fiasco and was founded on mis-information (not "lies") and a completely errant theory of what is happening and the proper response.

Yes, I'll be women enough to say that we made a big mistake and it's a living hell over there, yes I think we should have never gone there knowing how it is now. But I still support the mission and our men and women fighting for us and the innocent Iraqis.
