No it does not mean they are without sin.It is a gift. Discernment is the special ability given by the Holy Spirit to know confidently whether or not a person claiming that a word or action is from God, is in truth from God, or satanic. Sometimes a person gifted with this ability, may even see certain spirits influencing others in the spirit realm.

1 Cor. 12:10 He [the Holy Spirit} gives someone else the ability to know whether it is really the Spirit of God or another spirit that is speaking.

Mary, You are wise to ask this question. The Bible says to test all Spirits to see if they are from God 1 John 4:1. The reason for this is because there are many out there including inside the Church that are False teachers and false prophets. 2 Pedro 2 That is why one must take precautions on how to receive visions and prophecies from others. There are also evil spirits that try to tell you things in you mind tricking you into believe that it is the Holy Spirit. Now, I don't want you to be afraid, because God has the answer to everything. I will give you some counsel on how to test spirits. #1 That everything be in testimony of 2 or 3 people. If someone where to come to you saying the They had a vision of you or a word, look for a Leader, Pastor, or someone of confidence in Church that can help you discern what the other person is saying. So that both can analize the word and be sure if it is from God or not. If the person that has the vision does not want you to have somebody with you, than do not receive it. #2 Jesus said you will know them by their fruit. Do not ever recieve a word, vision, or anything from someone that is not right with the Lord. #3 The Bible is the best filter ever. If you do receive a word, look into the Bible to confirm it. If anyone tells you anything that goes against Gods principles and the way that He does things, than it is not of HIM. Also if someone has prophisized upon you and it has not com to pass than he/she is a false prophet. #4 Ask God if it is HIS (Prayer) This is the most sure way to know. Who else would know if not God. One more thing. There are 3 types of words: 1 to confirm a word or calling that you have. 1 to exhort you if you are in sin. 1 to raise you up. I hope that this has been helpful for you. And it is always good to ask questions. What other way would you find the answers? God bless you, Diego

No. We humans are not infallible.

1 Corinthians 2:14:
14 But people who aren’t spiritual[a] can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

Discernment means that you can tell the difference; for instance. Someone asks a "hateful" question. I have just discerned that it was hateful or malicious.

Hosea 14:9 Let those who are wise understand these things.Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.

dis·cern·ment (d-sûrnmnt, -zûrn-)
n.
The act or process of exhibiting keen insight and good judgment.
Keenness of insight and judgment.

And yes, Christians had discernment when it came to Al Gore and G.W. Bush. I'm so glad Al wasn't in office when 9/11 happened!

Hope that helps!

No, I don't think that it means infallible, because the passage itself does not seem to say so. And in practice, I have seen good Christians differ over how to interpret a particularly difficult passage, and I have a hard time believing that one was godly and the other was not.

It seems that by "discernment", at least a Christian is open to being taught, so he is more likely to come to the right conclusion since he is not blinded by a selfish sinful desire to only see what he wants to see, like worldly people often are.

You seem to have a very narrow view of ideas and you express them with out all information or you just look narrowly. Open your mind

no, not infallible. It means we can usually sense when something or someone is not right.

Must be a theoretical concept - Christians don't claim to be perfect, do they?
