Yes, in times past there were earthquakes and volcanic activity virtually daily in most parts of the world, much of it far more violent than anything seen in modern times. The earth has cooled down substantially since then, but it still has a molten core, so some scattered geothermic activity is to be expected.

Yes. The geological record shows that in fact there have been.
The only reason we are noticing it is becasue we're more spread out as a species and many of the places where earthquakes happen are desirable property. So we're self-skewing the results. We're more aware of them, even though they're happening at exactly the same rate.

Let's not rush things. I like earth.
And, wow you are really going to freak out when we have a polarity shift. I really recommend taking a geology class so that you won't be so easily deceived or tricked. They are pretty inexpensive at community colleges, where you might even find a night class if that would work better for you. I really enjoyed the one I took last summer.
