Yes, absolutely. Even if your student status has expired already -- you would be able to apply and obtain a green card.

In most cases, there is no need to depart the USA and go back to your home country. The adjustment of status can be completed from within the USA.

Rubbish. You can marry a US citizen while here on a student Visa and than she can apply for your permanent green card. Er, is this student one of your students?

If you plan on leaving the United States, she can keep her current status. Do note that it will expire once she graduates, and the leeway period isn't very big, so you do have to have your affairs in order well before she graduates.
