I'm planning on getting a tattoo done next week. It will comprise of a lightly fluttering Saint Andrews cross in the background and a howling silver wolf in the foreground. Can anyone direct me to a good link showing a howling silver wolf (either traditional or japanese anime in style)? I've googled for an appropriate image but still haven't found one that I like.

Also can anyone direct me to a good site so I can pick out the characters to spell my late wife's name?

Once I wore a necklace with a chinese character, which I later found out means "Pervert".... If I ever get a tattoo, be assured I would triple check what it means. I guess people think Chinese characters are beautiful and thats why they get them. I see your point, it must be silly cuz you can actually read them and not see them as an abstract symbol. I mean if somebody wrote something completely random in English alphabet like "elephant", I would definetly think of an elephant first instead of thinking how beautiful the word looks in that lovely Garamond typeface.......

For the chinese characters, you have to realize that there is no alphebet in the language. Chinese names are created for the sound (usually never for what they mean...) example-- 小明 (xiao ming) a typical chinese name means nothing. the first character- Xiao, means small, and the second means next (usually used when saying 'tomorow' "明天"-- Find out first, if your wife's name is phonetically able to be translated (you can ask me if you like)- good luck though!

www.zhongwen.com

Has a good dictionary and characters.

As for a anime wolf - try looking at the work of Miyazake, or J-list.com for ideas and inspiration.
