"The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one."

i don't think either person would be more content with themselves if they had religion or not. some people feel that religion gives them a purpose while others find that their children or jobs or other things give them a purpose. it's what you feel is right for you. people that aren't religious can live just as fulfilling lives and those who are religious. i personally think being very religious can prevent you from experiencing a lot of things. some people take religion over board and it can hold you back from a lot. everything is a sin to them. i think overly religious people tend to be very narrow minded and not open to different people. so in that aspect i think they may have some things lacking. a lot of people become religious because it's something they can believe in and be apart of. not everyone needs that in their life. it's different for every person but i don't think one side has it better or worse than the other.

A lot of people will tell you they are happy, then they commit suicide or take anti-depressants. Lots of the Christians I know personally tend to be very unhappy, but that is hardly a random sample. If there is anything in Christianity that produces happiness it is likely the fellowship with one's friends, not the religion itself.

No, I don't think so.
When bad sh*t happens, it doesn't matter if you are theist or atheist, you will still be unhappy.
The inverse is also true.
Jesusfreak, go f*ck yourself. Only an arrogant christian would be so conceited and egotistical as to claim that atheists don't have desire and purpose in their lives. I am living for far more realistic and practical reasons than an imaginary friend and wishful thinking.

I think religious people are happier, it's even been studied and the research also proves it, too.

I don't think religion makes you more or less happy than you would be without it. As for me, I was unhappy as a Christian, and am quite content as an Agnostic.

It depends. If they have experienced true conversion, then YOU BET! If not, then no more or less then the odds among others.

To me it's not about being happy, it's about having joy no matter what my circumstances are.

absolutely...we have something to live for and non religious people have no purpose. its so easy to tell the difference-we love life, non religious people are lazier and more blaze about life.
