Tomorrow from Annie is a safe bet. It's short, sweet and easy to sing- esp. for girls that age, but a lot of girls might be singing that one so there is also Castle on a Cloud from Les Miserables if she wants a slower, lower song or My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music. Whatever it is, keep it short and simple.
You don't want her to sing a long, complicated or inappropriate song that will just get lost in the all the other kids auditioning. Keep it short and simple and keep in mind that the two most important vocal qualities are clarity and volume. Sometimes kids think they need to show this whole range and they add this weird melodramic overdone thing and it just comes across like they are trying way too hard. The words should be clear and not mumbled or sung too fast and she needs to be able to project her voice without screaming or belting it so loud she's turning purple and her neck veins are popping out!
Most importantly and above all else though is that she should have fun doing it and it will show! Good luck. Or break a leg...

First, check with the teacher who is in charge of the audition to be sure exactly what your daughter has to do. ( Often, the Star Spangled Banner or My Country Tis of Thee is all that's needed --to see if the child has a good voice and can sing in tune.) If there's more to it, I'd suggest a song from one of the Disney movies - "Part of Your World" from "Little Mermaid" or "A Lovely Night" from Cinderella are appropriate, for example, and your daughter may know them by ear already. "Do, Re Mi, or "The Sound of Music" from "The Sound of Music" also would work well. Find out if there will be someone to play the piano and if you need to bring sheet music with you. There are a number of interent sources that enable you to pay a fee and download the sheet music without having to go to a music store. If you have a friend, neighbor, church choir director, etc., who plays piano, ask if they could help your daughter learn the song. Make a tape or an MP3 recording of the piano part for her to practice with. Finally, make sure your daughter understands that not everyone can get a part in a play, and that it doesn't mean that she's "no good" if she's not chosen.

There are many different songs which can be appropriate repetoire. You may want to call the musical director and ask what sort of music would be appropriate. You will also need to find a song your child loves. I know when I was 8, I entered a talent show and won singing "You LIght Up My Life." It set my life up for a career in music. So make it a decision both you and your child will love - since you will need to keep hearing the song and your child singing it. Good luck!
BTW - there is some great music in Secret Garden, too.

Think back to The Wizard of Oz. Somewhere Over the Rainbow is a classic song that touches the heart of so many. She will have a chance to show off her talents with the wide range of notes in this song. I think it would be kind of cute.

"Somewhere Over the Rainbow".
Everyone knows this song and (almost) everyone likes it. It has something of a range, but it's not too much.
