Quakers and Amish certainly believe that. And yes, a strict reading of scripture would mean exactly that. Of course, just because a course of action is best, and recommended by God, doesn't mean free willed humans will do the right thing. I would certainly have a difficult time with it.

But we CAN and SHOULD defend the weak and helpless according to Scripture. And it is perfectly okay to love your enemies while opposing their actions. WHERE does it tell Christians in general to put down their swords?

You forgot to mention that He also said "to turn the other cheek"...lol

You also seem to not know that there was a time when Jesus said to his disciples to "take up the sword"

In Ecclesiastes, we are told there is a season for all things; and in that list it says there is a time for peace and there is a time for war.

Sometimes it seems that the kind of "love" our enemies need (after they have slapped our cheek repeatedly) is to be slapped down... hard... or tuff love. Some people never "get it" any other way.

Isn't it interesting that outside the U.N. building quotes Micah 4:3 and those that try to live by those words are imprisoned in all those same countries? I wish "suspendor" would care enough to read others answers

He wanted to point out the real war is a spiritual war which can only be fought through his love.

if God wants us to love our enemies, then how much more our families, country, our freedom? if you wouldn't defend your self or your family from an enemy because of love, you're a sorry individual
