Or do people come up to you and ask you questions, assuming that you work there. It has happened to me on occasion. One time I was at Kroger looking at the lunch meats and an elderly lady started to ask me something, and then said, "Oh, do you work here?" I was wearing a blue T-shirt and jeans--not sure what made her think that, but I'm sure something did.

So, has something like this ever happened to you?

Yes, it happens to me, too.

I am especially surprised during the winter time when I have my heavy coat and boots on. People still ask me questions about where the products are in the store. I try to help out.

I also worked in a craft store and wore a smock. The smock had the store's logo and name on the front. I was still asked if I worked in the store. (No, I just LOVE coming into craft stores and wear the staff uniforms!)

Occasionally. I have a tendency to talk with people. And since I know the stores I shop at, I know where things are at. I'll even help elderly people with boxes or jars if they're on a high shelf and they ask if I work there. Maybe I'm old-school, but it's only polite to help if you can.

I once visited a friend of mine in her antique shop. She had to work, but we both brought our lunch. A couple wanted to know what to do with oversized wine glasses. I immediately chirped that they could use them as centerpieces with fruit, or big sundae glasses. They asked if I worked there and she had to say I was just a friend. But she got the sale and commission!
(I got a bottle of wine from her. :)

I was at a craft supply store last weekend and a girl (I'd say about 14 or 15) walked up to an employee (the red apron with the nametag kinda gave it away) and asked her if she worked there. The person answered "no" jokingly and the kid actually turned and walked away.............?

I've been asked if I work in a store I'm shopping in before yes.

I politely tell them that I don't work there, and either help them find someone who does, or if I can answer their question, I will.

I figure they thought I looked friendly enough to approach, and it costs me pretty much nothing to help them, so why not?

All the time at WalMart. I guess I fit the profile (even though you wouldn't catch me dead in one of those little blue vesties). I just ended up answering their questions, and directing them to the appropriate sections. One time I had a line of people waiting to ask me questions.

On occasion, not often. Not a big deal, if it is an elderly person i would assist them in finding what they are looking for.
God bless

once in a restaurant I ordered coffee and later found out that he was not a waitor or steward but a customer.
anyway, never wear something which will misguide people. i.e. bow tie or dress like a salesgirl, while on move in a mall.
