the opiate of the masses

weak minded individuals seem easily brainwashed by its words.

just remember -- it's been around for 2000 years, and 2/3 of all the people on earth still reject it. not very good, if indeed it was inspired by a god.

Look at what ROCKFORD said below. He read what you asked, and only seconds later, look what he said: "You said it yourself. The Christian God is a powerful."

That is NOT what you said! Not even close!! But he needed to see that in what you said, so when he quoted you, he changed what you said and he changed the meaning! Christians do that ALL THE TIME!!!

He TOTALLY misrepresented you and couldn't understand what you wrote, and he misquoted you. Imagine all the errors in the bible, given that they are stories handed down for decades before they were ever written down on anything?

remember too: none of the roman historians from that era (during the alleged life of christ) even mentions christ anywhere... yet, christians would have you believe that he was so much more influential and figurative in that culture!

Because back in the day, they had the most soldiers. It's that simple. This is the Roman Empire we're talking about here...

They took over Europe, and although their military strength eventually waned, the power of the church they created, and forced on those they conquered, still goes strong.

The Roman Catholic Church replaced all of the religions of the people they conquered, to the point where the old gods were virtually forgotten. So it makes perfect sense that Christianity was the dominant religion in Europe and its colonies...

Because it's so psychotic!

It's a fear-based religion masquerading as a love-based religion. That neurosis #1. #2: people are dirty sinners, humble and lowly creatures, yet they are the prize in a battle between the gods of good and evil. #3, it is a religion of peace and being good to others, yet so righteous it was spread across the globe by war and bloodshed. #4, according to its spiritual rules people can feel 'saved' and therefore good about themselves no matter how horrible they are, so it excuses all manner of bad behavior.

Also its mythos drew upon the most appealing elements of myth at the time, many of them greek. It's extremely powerful because everything that evokes human emotion is put into it. It's so dramatic, it's hard to resist!

Obvioulsy??? Ha! It's obvious that you have not really read the amazing story of when God visited man in human form: Jesus! And that is why it is powerful, it is all about saving a fallen race of people and revealing the all powerful Father God who devised a way for these lost people to find their way home. But the choice always He leaves in each individual's hands. You can stay lost and fallen and in darkness if you so wish... Have you ever read Plato's "Allegory of the Cave"?

The short answer? Because it's TRUE!!!

Mythology? Then do you mean all religons are myth? Think your question out more before you submit it. Wal-Mart is the most powerful social force on earth.

It allows people to feel they will survive death, thus alleviating fear of death. It allows the "saved" to feel elite and superior to the unsaved, thus serving a base human need to feel superior to others when you actually aren't. It helps people who otherwise cannot cope handle the unfairness and pain of life, they feel god somehow guarantees justice in the afterlife through punishment and reward. It gives people who can't stand uncertainty the illusion of certainty. In short, for those who otherwise can't cut it, it serves many psychological purposes.
