I have a theory on this Islamic Haddith. Muhammad made himself a "prophet" among his war party and had scribes taking note of his every move as a result. This is supposedly how the Haddiths (sayings of the Prophet) came to be.
Ok, so people are watching Muhammad all the time and taking note of his deeds, cause this is a sign to them about how Allah wants them to act. One day, they see him picking his nose like everyone else and get a puzzled look on their face. Muhammad quickly responds with a "errr...uhhh...Im picking the devil out of my nose...and..uhh...everyone should do so...a one, a two...a three...yea, thrice!".

it says Shaytaan not Satan, Satan is called "Iblis". so it could be one of the devils (children/generation of Satan). devils has been created from fire or smoke of fire, they can shape themselves in a way that you can't imagine. and there are devils who can hunt a human who is not faithful enough.
and if Muhammad said this, then he said the truth.
and by the way, you have been fliping around many Hadith, so is that the only one you picked? how about all the other Hadith. or it's only you try so hard to pick the negative one and ignore the positive ones?
