it wont rise and it wont cook properly. baking powder is what makes the cake "puff" up.

You will have a pan-cake. Add some more flour and it will be a pound-cake. It won't come out right. Baking powder is essential for a homemade cake. It won't rise. It will be more like a really dense, heavy pancake. You found the baking soda?
