I was hyperthyroid in 2001, I took a radioactive iodine pill and they waited a couple of months for my levels to drop and then put me on synthetic thyroid hormone.
After your levels start dropping you will gain weight no matter what you do, and you'll be exhausted, I remember not being able to finish drying my hair without having to stop and rest...that tired!
But once you start your synthroid, you should quickly feel better.
It may take a few visits to find the right dosage for your synthroid, I took all the doses they make before finding the right one. Don't be afraid to tell your dr that you don't feel right. Sometimes the blood test shows normal levels but you may need more or less depending on how you feel. Good luck!! I feel your pain!!

My grandmother had RAI a few years back, they were going to give me RAI but I have thyroid eye disease and they said RAI would make it worse so I still take meds, other than that she has done quite well with RAI and just takes a pill everyday, I would take the meds for a few years first to see if goes into remission....of course if it does it still can come back anytime but its worth a try before killing your thyroid.
