hold a broom handle (withouth the broom) or some other long light pole, over your head with your arms out like a Y. Lean down to the left side as far as you can stretching your right side. Hold. Repeat on the right side. 10 reps.

Hold the pole on your shoulders behind your neck so that it's perpendicular to the floor. With your elbows down, hold the pole in each hand and twist back and forth (the pole will keep your back and shoulders aligned) for 5 full minutes.

excercise alone will not help.

You cannot spot reduce (reduce fat stores only in one area).

A good nutrition plan should help you. If you are gaining weight then what you need to do is examine your eating habits.

You are eating in the day far more than you can possibly excercise. One of the biggest excercise and weight loss myths is that if you eat poorly you can just burn off the calories in the gym. The reason it is false is the first sentance. In order to burn off a simple meal, you need to excercise for more hours than it takes to eat it.

Nutrition first, excercise as a supplement.

A good book on nutrition is Eat, Drink and be Healthy, The Harvard Medical School Guide to Healthy Eating.

Any excercise you do will only STREGTHEN those muscles it won't reduce the fat. You need to either do the excercise at a cardio pace (for periods of time) or do cardio to help reduce the overall fat. Diet is 90%, excercise only about 10%

Hi there!

I hate to tell you this, but there is no way to spot reduce your love handles, barring liposuction.

The way body fat is lost is by losing it all over. Typically, you will lose from where you body carries the fat, which means as you lose body fat it will come from your love handles. However, you can't just target them. This term is called spot reduction and it is a myth in exercise induced weight loss.

Moreover, exercises don't get rid of body fat. They just help you burn more calories. If by doing this, you burn more calories than you eat, you will lose body fat uniformly. However, if you workout for eight hours a day but still eat tons of food (more than you burn), you will still gain weight.

While I have a lot of ideas to help you, i will just give you a few to get you started. You have one of two options to get rid of the love handles. Get liposuction cosmetic surgery or try to do it through diet and exercise. If you choose the latter, then you need to create a calorie deficit for yourself.

I would suggest you start by keeping your calories at 1500 per day, split up into five meals of 300 calories each. Then, try and stay as active as you can. This should get you going to where you should start to see progress within the week: clothes feeling looser, etc.

I would also suggest you find someone knowledgeable to encourage you to keep to the program to better ensure your success.

I believe this answers your question, but if not, you may email me.

Good luck on your diet and fitness goals!

Actually any excercise is good for love handles. Just because your doing a certain excercise for a certain muscle doesn't mean you'll lose weight in that area. What will usually happen is that muscle will either get toned, or get bigger in muscle mass depending on the weight and number of reps, but just because that muscle is doing either of those two doesn't mean your losing weight in that area. Most people's bodies start losing weight from the head down. That is why when you see people losing weight you'll notice it alot in there face. It is a common misconception that working a certain area of your body will burn fat just in that area.

I use a dumbell and whichever side I wish to lose I do a leaning rep keeping my arm straight and do about 20 reps per side. I follow this with general cardio workout on a elliptical trainer for 1/2 hour to burn fat and I do this twice a day. I find this burns love handles and abdomen fat very fast. Drink lots of water and take in very little sugar or carbs. You are on your way.

you can't reduce just a target area, unfortunately. You have to exercise overall and reduce overal and it will reduce your love handles.
Another thing you can do is make other parts bigger, like your legs, chest, etc by weight training heavy with low reps.

Stand with your back to a wall and twist slowly to touch the wall with your hands. Right side, left side, three sets of ten. Twice a day... why not? You can even do it at work.
