Can you give concrete examples. I can only think of this example: sex between 2 consenting adults who are free to marry, but are not married to one another, may be considered as amoral by some, and immoral by others.

So, what is really amoral and immoral?

An immoral act would be one in violation of morals, while an amoral act would be one not based in a moral code. For example, were the 2 people in your example adulterous Christians, it could be an immoral act. Were they Agnostic college students, it could be an amoral act. Immoral means one recognizes certain things as being wrong, however they act about it.

Amoral means that one says there is no right or wrong; do whatever you want to.

Using your example, if they know it is wrong and do it anyway, they are immoral.
If they think it is not wrong, that it does not matter, then they are amoral.

immoral means you know something is wrong and chose to do it anyway.

amoral means you don't even have the sense to know it's wrong.
