I was going to suggest Bertrand Russell. My husband is an atheist and I am Gnostic. After reading Russell I was able to understand my husband and his religious non beliefs better.

You're thinking in Christian terms, if you think atheists want to 'convert' theists. I don't care. Be a Christian if you want. All I want if for people to be aware of what religions are. Once you do, you're free to choose.
