I'm an atheist (not an athiest).

Since all "gods" (and there appear to be many incompatible "true gods" -- if standard religions are to be believed -- which calls ALL religions into question)... appear to be vindictive, demanding, cruel beings who only "love you" if there is absolute obedience and ritual compliance with a long list of rules. The need of many people to believe in such a being is beyond me.

I accept that there might be types of intelligent being out there in the universe that are more advanced than mankind, even ones who exist on some type of energy plane rather than with a physical form. The relationship to humans (assuming they even know humans exist) might be like a human to the yeast we use to make bread (useful but not something to demand prayer from) or a human to fish in a home aquarium (a pet) or ... more optimistically ... like lesser advanced species on Star Trek (observe but don't interfere), or even like the "Q". But none I can imagine would be like a god portrayed in any religion I am aware of.

I therefore reject the idea of a god as described by conventional religion (and here I exclude some forms of buddhism). I don't need religion to tell me what is right or wrong. Humanist principles (more specifically secular humanism) provide all the guidance people need and don't require confusing things with silly requirements to pray or fast or whatever. I equate belief in a god with belief in the Easter Bunny. So should any rational being.

Were I to create such a being, I suppose it would be geared towards a combined human consciousness, wherein all of humanity made up the composite "God".

I could not imagine any better God than the one who now is, the JudeoChristian God "Jah" who is a loving fair and just God, one who even when presented with an evil and rebellious people makes a way for them to be reconciled to Himself. Praise Jah! or, as most people say it, "Hallelujah!"
