Go out and pick your own sloes, there are plenty about in the UK and they are ready now. The most common drink in the 40s was sloe gin, 3/4 a pint of gin, fill the rest of the bottle with sloes and mature, ready for Christmas.

No don,t think so I have also had it but at a Russian wedding reception in Siberia never touched it since being a bit naive at the time when I got invited I did not know what I was letting myself in for if there are 50 guests = 50 toasts = 50 shots I have never been so drunk in my life I have had Sloe gin and it tastes nothing like that red Russian stuff and that stuff that you get here is nothing like the authentic Russian stuff cos that is mega strong and is a bit more like a liquor than a normal spirit

yea, a gramme of dried sloe berry, and a hell of a lot of food colouring.
Seriously, the polish excell at vodka, and to them, a sweetened syrupy vodka, is called a cordial. Not to be confused with, lime cordial, as the stuff's 37% by volume!
a good brand, for the sort of thing your after, is "wishnoka"? (a cherry cordial) excuse my polish, said "wish snook a", i remember, i used to mix one measure with one measure pure polish spirtit 140 proof (80%vol!) and top up with lemonade, in a wisky/wine glass. It didnt taste strong, until you tried to get up!
