make sure the stylist LOVES doing perms and specializes in it. you WILL spend more, but it will be worth it, trust me, this is what i do for a living.
personally, i hate perms so i would refer you to someone else (the money doesn't mean as much to me as your hair does to you).
wear something old that can be ruined without you getting mad.

Yeah... Don't!
I got a perm a little while ago and I am not really happy with it. It kinda fell out on the top and just looks messy now, plus it made my hair dry, and you can't wash it for three days... GROSS. Plus it stinks and the chemicals they use really can't be all that good for you.
So yeah I would seriously suggest not bothering. But if your dead set on it just go in and have a consultation with your stylist, or at any reputable salon. Best of Luck!

Have a professional do it! Do not do a home perm, it will fry your hair and won't be very curly. Personal Experience!

If you color your hair,don't do it. It will turn out a fuzzy mess and it won't have spiral curls.

I did my own, but I used a relaxer and useds 45 large magnetic rollers and rolled them sideways, and they are perfect.

yeah, cut your hair in layers afterwards so the top of your hair doesn't go flat
