You can't really force an individual to tell the truth. It has to be something that they do naturally. You can help, though, by praising the person after they tell the truth. Even if you don't like what you are hearing.

First of all...get a man! Like me for instance. If a man (or woman) has to lie to get what they want...they need some counseling...or you don't need them. If he doesn't love you enough to tell you the...well to tell you the truth...he doesn't love you enough. Kick him to the curb and start looking for a man like me...a real man...by the way, where do you live? Smile

Break through his 'I'm fine' barrier with specific questions, also give him the benefit of the doubt. By asking "what's wrong?", you're assuming something is wrong. So, for example, if you want the truth about work instead of asking "How's work?", be more specific and ask a question he can't say 'fine' to. like "what's the most interesting thing about your new job?'
