This backseat driver is my 82 yo grandmother who really needs someone to drive her around. BTW, she has no driver's license (hers expired in the 1960s). Her constant comments (during the whole drive) is really starting to become distracting. She'll yell "stop" because she thought a pedestrian was about to walk in front of the car and she will say "why don't you start braking now?"

Just say "Thank you" every time she says something. I do this to my boyfriend, he's the worst back seat driver in the world. Unfortunately he has the presence of mind to know I'm being sarcastic, maybe the grandmother doesn't.

Young men are far more likely to be attacked/mugged than young girls. Just don't walk home anywhere on your own and it's far less likely to happen to you. Sounds like bad luck to be attacked twice in such a short period of time, but walking around at night on your own is probably not a cunning plan (nor is wearing treasured jewellery/watches) if you want to avoid getting mugged. Being dragged into an alleyway is a classic mugger's tactic (as it's out of sight from most people), so don't read anything into that. If you walk around at night wearing expensive, obvious clothes/jewellery, you're like an unlocked house to a burglar - i.e. an easy target. Get a cab/bus home or walk with a friend.

I would say "grandma, I love you and I would love to take you where ever you need to go, but its really distracting when you tell me how to drive all the way from the back seat. If you don't trust my driving skills then maybe you think about getting someone else to drive you to do your errands."

now you know you can't mistreat grandma. when she's gone you're gonna miss her being that #1 backseat driver in your life. just turn the radio up and ignore her. unless you go on a long trip then you may need some earplugs

Just go with the flow. If you're lucky, you'll make it to 82, and may need a driver as well.

Ask her if she would be more comfortable getting a better driver to haul her around. Someone else who can drive much better then you. That might shut her up.

Tell Grandma kindly and with respect that she is making you nervous and you need her to stop, or just ignore her completely. If she complains, tell her you want to keep her safe while you are driving and you can't listen to her and drive safely.

Kindly explain to her that if she wants you to continue going out of your way to provide a mode of travel for her, then she's going to have to let you drive because it really distracts you when she talks to you.
