I agree with you completely about it being very rude to have phone conversations at the dinner table. I would have been livid at Valetines Day had that happened to me. As for the son it is out of your control as to what he does since it is not a step parents place to discipline the child...your fiance should be doing that but clearly doesn't have an issue with it. I guess right now all you can do is sit down and talk to your fiance and tell him even though he thinks it is OK that you don't and you need him to respect your feelings about this. If the son has mandated time on the phone with his mother then I guess there is no way around that and she may be calling at the dinner hour just to spite you (who knows). I wouldn't even bother with making dinner at this point...why go to that trouble when it is just going to be ruined like that.

I think he likes you, but he could be one of those guys who are always arrogant and loves to talk about themselves all of the time. Be careful, because he may pursue you just to have the feeling of victory if he wins you over, and then he will still only care for himself instead of your needs or feelings.

yea as a human being but not what you are thinking about. you probably make a good conversationlist. if he really like you then you two would be talking in person more than on the phone

YES and YES! He definitely likes you or why would he keep calling? Try calling him from time to time so he knows you like him too.

I *almost* would agree with the consensus of maybe the man likes to babble like a clueless mother with empty-nest-syndrome...
but...
Given that he actually seems inquisitve about your state of well being and that you avoid that icky thing called 'awkward silence', I'll answer with a big resounding 'DUH'.
