Guinness is nice But an acquired taste, i know of a lovely beer
its called Mansfield Chocolate Ale mmmmmmmmm its lovely & yes there is an hint of chocolate in the taste.
The best thing to do is to try anything on the bar that says either Smooth pour or cream flow, these are bitters & its a good place to start before you try guiness.
Cafferys is a good one to try, BUT make sure there ice cold.
I used to freeze my glass too.
Tip the can right upside down over a pint glass to pour.
They say that you should let it settle!!
I never did i,d have a good drink Its like milk.

Dark doesn't always equal bitter. Some are actually very sweet. It has to do a lot with hops and some with the type of malt. Rogue Chocolate Stout is a very good and for the most part sweet beer. Some dark Belgian ales are very fruity and sweet. There are hundreds of styles to chose from and if you're willing to experiment you may just see the differences. My friends and I finished making a German Marzen/Oktoberfest last night and I have to tell you although it's a darker beer it is no where near bitter. Marzen beers are very heavy on the malt and tend to be very pleasing to most people. I haven't met anyone yet that hasn't liked my Marzen. Some brands of Marzens include, Gordon Biersch, Sam Adams, Flying Dog, and Goose Island.

Where do you live?
Just by coincidence, just yesterday (Wednesday) there was an article in "The New York Times'" Dining section by its alcoholic beverage critic reviewing dark porters. The tasting panel tasted samples from both North America and Europe. It rated Geary's Porter, made in Portland, Maine, USA, as the best overall, and Samuel Smith's the best of the British ones. You can probably find the article at the Time's website.

I would recommend Summit Extra Pale Ale, its a minnesota beer that is amazing. Another is called Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Guiness is indeed meant to be served luke warm...not extra cold you cant taste it as much...not room temperature because well its just not good. NegraModelo is a good beer but, so is Killian's Irish Red (its not too dark but darker than a typical lager beer. I would suggest going to beeradvocate.com to find many many beer ratings

Turbodog, its an Abita beer (micro brewery in La) so it depends on where you live you might not be able to find it. if you cant get it go with a black and tan(bass pale ale and guinness) or a half and half(harps lager and guinness), also flying dog makes a dark beer or two and maybe sam adams too

Try a black and blue, order 2 bottles of beer one guiness and one blue moon. Pour half a glass of blue moon in first, then Pour the guiness over an upside down spoon to make it float. It looks cool and tastes good too.

Guinesss tastes like watery piss; don't listen to these beer amateurs. For a delicous dark beer, try Whole Stein by Viking brewery. It has a hint of bitterness followed by a rich chocolate flavor that isn't overwhelming.
If you want to ease into dark beers, start with a Black and Tan. Usually it's made with Guiness and Harps.
