Hi,

I would like to buy a printer that would be able to print on canvas- not necessarily on an enormous scale, but saying A3-ish as a max. Do you need a specific type of printer top do this- if so, which ones do you recommend? Secondly, what sort of things am I looking for in a decent one- say what DPI for example.

I hope someone out there can help me, as I'm quite new to this sort of thing and thought it would be a nice hobby to print my digital images onto canvas. I don't know if anyone could advise a good place within the UK to purchase one (apart from ebay), but if you could let me know that would also be wonderful.

Thanks in advance.

Look at Epsons line of printers. Look at models 1800+, they start at about $500 and go up from there. There are very few printers that can actually print on canvas, but most of the higher end Epson printers will with great results.

Yes acrylics are easier to work with and dry fast. However I do not believe you can use impasto for acrylics, but I am not totally sure if you can find that since I do not normally work with them. To get the effect you are looking for oils would be better. They have texture, depending on thickness you can add dimension to your paintings. You can also use impasto. Oils take longer to dry but they have passed the test of time through centuries. You would need oil paint and mineral spirits and that is it. So is not that complicated. However there is a NEW OIL PAINT THAT IS WATER BASED. So basically you could do the same as with acrylics but they just would dry slower. probably the best of both words.... Oh and a word of advice. Whichever way you decide to go buy artist quality paints and not student Quality.
