He just started going to doggy day-care. He is used to being only on grass or in the house. I want to keep him in day-care but he seems to be walking a little gingerly at night and licks his paws alot. I called my vet and he said that the gravel shouldn't be causing the problem. But I really can't figure out what else it could be. Hopefully someone else has had a similiar experience and could give me some insight on what to do.

I think the sensitivity is more likely to be from the disinfectant they use on the gravel...Ask them, if you bought a roll of indoor-outdoor carpeting, would they allow you to roll that down in his pen..Leaving an area open for food and water..I work part time at a day care..

It IS the gravel causing his poor paws to be so sore and swollen. He's not used to being on such rough terrain and it's really bothering his feet. Poor baby needs to be on the soft grass more often. Try and ask the daycare if they can do this instead of leaving him on the gravel. Some daycares will help an owner out.
Hope this helps and good luck!

Yeah, sounds like it very well may be the gravel. He should develop toughness soon.

Puppies' paws are naturally a little tender (they ARE babies, after all), but he'll be ok soon. Like most babies, he'll adapt quickly. If his feet are still tender after 2 weeks, don't just call the vet, take your dog in...

check his paws well there mite be a small cut or a small prick...this causes a lot of problem and is very likely in dogs coz they are heavy and the paw pads of a 6 munth is pretty tender..
apply iodine solution or spirit and see if he shreiks in pain this is the easiest way to find if he is hurt/////

It sounds like it is just from him licking his pads and feet constantly. I would reccomend getting and e-collar (cone/lampshade looking collar) to prevent him from licking, or you can put on some Yuk! gel or bitter apple spray.
