how do you know? when you fall in love with the male hero in a story you are writing, how can any man compare?

how can any real life man compare to that character? and how do you know when you have found the right man for you??????how do you know you have found your soulmate?

The male hero is of course your soul mate because you created him and endowed him with everything that your heart desires. You have essentially put yourself into him, and no real man will ever match you as perfectly.

But the wonderful thing about real guys is that you don't know everything about them--they have so many complex layers to discover, accept, and love--many more than a female could possibly create or imagine. They are not static--they don't just match you perfectly and stop there. They grow and they force you to grow from knowing them. Essentially you become someone better and different from knowing them (something your self-created hero, taking all his cues from you, could never do).

I think a soul mate is not someone who matches you perfectly, but someone who you love to be around, have around, and go around this life with. You will never always see eye to eye, but he makes that lack of perfection some how worth it. You get along together, but you are also your individual selves. You feel comfortable with him and a lifetime makes you scared--not of too long, but not long enough. I know the road to finding this guy is hard and you will meet some guys who are jerks and make everything so hard. But I think you will finally meet that guy for you. Just remember, it may not be obvious at first, and the magic is in the little details, not the grand picture. Good luck!

You can't possibly know until you actually get to know a person. That takes a good amount of time and commitment, unfortunately. All of these people who claim to know someone after dating them or speaking with them online for three months are seriously kidding themselves.

I think it's very interesting that you've created a character that you've fallen in love with. You must be a passionate and talented writer.
