The war in Iraq has some liasons with Operation Desert Storm back in the early 90's. Bush senior tried to get Saddam out and failed. Bush junior got the job done. Maybe you can find a reason why that is a good thing and elaborate on that?

Who WOULDN'T support the troops, but what does supportiing the troops have to do with supporting the war? In fact, anyone who REALLY supports the troops would get them OUT of there as fast as possible so that no more of them have to die!
The idea of having "support the troops" meaning the same thing as agreeing with being in Iraq came from people who will never have to go there themselves to fight; after all, it's not much of a risk to oneself to just put a bumper sticker on a car!

There are a couple of reasons.

1. Saddam was an evil person who killed his own people with nerve gas.

2. According to some friends of mine who have served there, a majority of the people who live there are happy that Saddam is gone, and are glad the US is helping to set up a government that will give them a say.

3. I don't think Saddam had any direct impact on 9/11, but he did support terrorism with money and manpower.

4. Once this is over, having a good strong hold overthere will allow us to better combat terrorism.

I did not agree with going in either, but now that we are there you have to look at the brighter side of things, we can't change what happened, but we can look at some good things....even if they are few and far between.

And yes you can support the troops and not the war. Just because you love the troops does not mean you have to like the situations they are in sometimes....for example...You will love you children without question, that does not mean you are going to like everything they do....

Ok, here's your thesis statement : The pursuit of power and control over ones peers is not only an intrinsic part of human nature, it is the one goal we can aspire to free of the demands of moral hypocrisy.

You then go on to argue that the world has divided into nation states, ties between which create blocks of power. America is a huge one, rather like a large company. The aim of these units of power is to become stronger than the others and the goal of any political administration is to ensure that this happens.

America may be the most popwerful country in the World, but to ensure that it remains so it is necessary to get as much control as you can over the resource that runs the world: oil.

Iraq has lots of it (2nd largest supply in the World??) and America must get it (plus Afghanistan for pipelines and keep giving Israel lots of guns so you have a watch dog in the middle east where there's loads of oil in general) before Russia and China start taking over.

ie. The war is justified so america can remain the mst powerful civilization in the world and make everyone think like they do, have comfortable lives, big houses... This, particularly in a capatalist society, is akin to the instinct for survival and the most natural of human/animal motivations and has been the way of things ever since the first spark of life appeared in the primeval soup....

Should impress your teacher and sadly that is a simplified version of the truth of what is going on...

You shouldn't support the war in Iraq. It is senseless. But, you should support the troops because they didn't make the decision to invade that country...and I'm sure most don't want to be there.

How do you support troops, but not the war?
That's like supporting the hangman, but not the death penalty.
A halfa$$ed cop-out.
I feel bad for the troops, but they joined, and most joined during the reign of George the Second. Most figured out that it isn't like SOCOM or some other PS2 game. That it's not worth a few bucks towards college, that it's not worth dying, being mamed and losing for.

*Incorrect: Bush the First DID NOT TRY TO OUST SADAAM!!!! He knew the folly behind that. He made his troops turn back on the highway of death. Bush I had a lot more smarts.

** waging war on a NON-AGRESSOR nation is not DEFENSE!!!! They are not defending our nation. There was never a threat. It makes the parents of dead soldiers sleep better at night, but it's a lie nonetheless.

You can still support the troops and not the war, i know soldiers who dont like the fact that we are in the war but are a part of there countries defense. So when called they respond even if they dont agree

Though I disagree for the initial reason for the war, and the methods and means by which it is being carried out, I support the war as well as the warriors. The bottom line is this, Sadam killed his own people in the name of religion, justice, whatever. He even killed his own family, so there would be no threats to his regime.

1) We needed to take him out of power.

Innocent women and children are being hunted and killed daily, for no other reason than they pray to Allah differently. Though I do not wish to see anyone die, this is unreasonable. Is it not better to accept the sacrifice of someone who chose to be in harms way rather than the child who had no choice in where they were.

2)We need to save lives

There is absolutely no reason to support the war. The only good thing that came out of it was that Saddam was removed from power. You could research all the humans that he killed and how he killed them.
