I asked a legitimate question, and somebody responded with "R U guys stupid or what?" I wasn't really offended by this but I reported them for abuse out of spite. I just hate it when somebody takes the time to answer a question, but they don't offer anything in their answer. What happens when somebody is "reported"?

well..... it wasn't really a dick move.
iv'e done the same thing myself. i can't stand it when i ask a legitimate question and these idiots say that. when someone is reported, i think what happens is they're warned about it, and if that happens a number of times, they're blocked from the site.

You had every right to report that one. It wasn't an answer. That's clearly stated in the rules. When you're reported they might take away the 2 points you got for answering. They'd probably send the person a violation notice email. I can't find anything that states specifically how many violations before you get banned. I don't think there is a rule. I think the mods just get to decide when to ban or not.

Technical yes you can report abuse for such a answer… and
I think it would be fair to report them – people need to learn to respect and follow the rules…

According to Community Guidelines
Content & Usage
YOU MAY NOT POST CONTENT section h; "to vent your frustrations, rant, make statements, or otherwise violate the question and answer format"

For something like that they will probably just remove the post and warn the person who did it to follow the rules

If they are reported enough eventually they will be banned from the site. Though it is a free site, they can always re-register with a different email address.

I think some people report abuse simply because they don't like the answer. To do so is wrong. In order to report abuse, there should be clear cut reasons like vulgarity, harassment, etc, and not simply because you didn't like the answer that was given.

You may get an email saying someone whined.

Yes, it is a dick, move. Why put your energy into something so negative and useless?
