You are free to *believe* whatever you want...

Proof and reliability are different matters.

Astrology is great if you just want someone to take your money and reassure you.

Other than that, you might as well just flip a coin...

Hi Archy Beast - When you consider the millions of combinations of planets, houses, aspects, it is very difficult to come up with concrete rules. Interpretation is a blending of knowledge and intuition. Sometimes the interpretation is right on the mark and often it is just a vague expression of truth. What bothers me and yet is liberating at the same time is the lack of ethical oversight. There are many people out there interpreting and counseling using astrology concepts and knowledge but utilize it in a manner which is manipulative or self-serving. Whether they hurt or help people is of no consequence. I think you know what I mean. Finally, my belief is that there is always free will. Because we are born with a certain blueprint does not mean that we can't make choices which modify what has been given us. We are also given life lessons to learn and grow. We are either successfull or not in learning these lessons. This is the beauty of astrology - a combination of pre-destination & free-will.

I would say no. There have been no conclusive scientific studies that have shown that astrology is the real deal. Although alot of famous figures in history have based important decisions on their astrological beliefs. And also, I have a fact for you. Did you know that the three wise men were firm believers in astrology? They were high ranking advisors to kings of a vast empire at that time. I beleive that the name of the religion was Zoroastrism. It was one of the most popular religion at the time in Persia. They believed that a certain alignment of the planets/ stars would indicate the birth of a great king/ saviour. When it occured, they went to seek out this great king and give him valuable gifts. Jesus was the saviour that they approached. In other words, believers in astrology gave Christianity validity. This a historical fact. My source is an excellent PBS special that has been aired around Christmas for te past two years.

Let's see, somehow these stars that are trillions upon trillions of miles away have an effect on people born on a little planet of a far flung solar system. These stars effect people according to when they were born and where these stars were in the sky. So everyone born under the same "sign" would exhibit all the same traits and attributes. Even if they were born at the same time on the opposite side of the planet where the "effect" of these stars would be blocked.

Have I got that right so far?

If so, go back and read it and you tell me if it sounds believable.

P.S. That fireball buys into it is even more reason to question it.

It is so generalized that it honestly isn't worth the effort. People born in the latter months, like September through December tend to be inward in their expression, while people born in early spring and summer tend to be outward in their expression.

Why? The answer is not astrological as they profess, but biological. A baby born in November doesn't get into a pool until early summer, when they are almost a year. They spend their first formative months wrapped up warmly. A baby born in spring gets initiated into things like swimming in their first few months. Believe it or not, these things make a difference in how a child grows up.

Allthe planets in the solar system exert a force of grvity on each other and on the earth. the fores of gravity as also othere cosmic waves and energies have heir effect on the elements and atoms of all elements i this universe. We ar emade up of the lelemnts of the univrese in diffewrent proportions and the elements that ate present in each of us ar eexactly of the same quantities and nature as they are influenced by our day to day habits of breathig , bathing a,eating , sex , exercise , rest , smokig , drinking etc etc. The human beings are scattered all over the faces of the earth and each location of the eath would receive different quatities of the cosmic forces coming from diferent directions and sistnces and thier cumulative efect would have its impact on our mind whichis the central procesing unit of our entire physical body and this would have a psychsomatic effect on all our body and mind .So our life would be affected very much by the trnsit of the planets and the location we are in.
Astrological predictions have been codified by the ancinet rishis who have been studying the lives of people born on different days based on the positionh of the planets and the location of the individual and have arried at certain specific patteren in the lives of individuals born under specif influences of the diiferent planets and have eveloved a general system of prediction very much close to reality . the methodology adopted by them i sin no way differetn from that adopted by reaearchers in the universities today and by scientists all over the world . Even in the case of the efficacy of some medicines made for a specfic disease the researchesrs administer them to a group fo people suffering from a specific disease and some placebo to some other group snd study the effect of the medicines over a period and when they get a result which is fairly good , they announce that the particular medicine is effective or not and we accept the verdictas scientific , though it may not be perfect and cent percent right . If htere is any failure we blame the persons who created th emedicine and not the method of the researchers or the science itself . Here in the case of any failureon the prediction , we simply blame the science and not the astrologer who failed to assess correctly ore the horescope which might be wrongly made by failing to note the time and the exact location of the place of the birth etc .
furhter apart from what was studied bythe ancient rishis , no further reaearch or study has been made by anybody to upgrade the science as , we all know that the location of the soalr syatem and the groups of stars agaoinst the background of which the study and prediction have been made some thousands of years ago have changed a lot as the stars and theglactic matteer are driffing from one another and the distance between them and the earth today have vastly increased and the effect of he planetry forces receding from the earth should be geting reduced in inverse proportion to the distances , by a squarew of the distances involved. the science has been neglected out of sheer ignornce and by the midern research establishes the fact behind these sciences , Itwill be too late and too hard .to think of doing any work in this regard. Iwould like to point out one interesting thing in this context .Macauly while recommending the introduction of English as the medium of study in India wrote a minute stating that though he does not know sanskrit and arabic , he was convinced that that the entire scriptures of Inid and arabia would not be equivalent to a shelf of books in an europen Library. such was the arrogant ignornce of the ruling British Imperialistic impudence and arragnt ignorance .
The elite indians who avidly accepted the munificence of the british imperialism by serving them readily accepted their decision. Just contrast this great wisdom of macaulay with the statement of the greatest scientist of the twenteeth century Albert Eintein in his words " when I studied Bhagavad -Gita and reflected on the principles of the creation of the universe , everything else seems to be superfluous."
The arrogaqnt British could pass judgement about anything even without touching asingle page of any book and that was veda ata time .
Thus was the anquity of the harappa and mohenjadaro cultue was declared by a professor of archealogy of th eoxford universtiy whose words werde veda at a time .Simply fools and pucca fools had he authority to decide and declare the nature of things they had absolutely no idea about and hey did not have the fairness to study anything before declaring them as useless. so are mistt of thepeople even to day and it is the educated people who are behaving like this.
So it is necessary and indispensable for any one to look into anything , however one likes or dislikes it , before passing any judgement about it . Hardly any person who believes in any particular religion does this before he says anythking bad about any ohter religon . That is the problem of not only today , but for in the past and all times to come .Sensible and cultured people alone have the wisdom to understand the nuances of good conduct and fairness . Mere status and position alone do not make any one wise and more often than not they have only made people arrogant and ignorant .

Believable? Sure, isn't anything?

In evaluating belief systems isn't it wise to consider how they address/answer the natural belief in a supreme being?

How about also choosing a belief system that presents a balance of entities so that life is more than about ones self?
