I am an x-ray tech and know exactly how to become an ultrasound tech. The first thing you need to do is find a quality radiologic technology program. It can be a hospital based program but there are also university based programs. You will spend 2 years in x-ray school taking general x-rays. You have to have this training before you can go on to ultrasound training. Depending on where you work, a hospital will usually crosstrain you in ultrasound if they have an opening to do so. A sure fire way to get the ultrasound training after x-ray school is to find a program that specifically trains you in ultrasound. I live in Kentucky and the University I went to has a bachelors degree. In this bachelors degree you can get the x-ray training you need and also the ultrasound training. Plus you get the benefits of a bachelors degree. I know of another program that will train you in ultrasound and it is a great program and takes a shorter amount of time. This program is in Kettering, Ohio. I know there has to be programs in you area. The key is getting good grades, getting a high score on your ACT, interviewing well with the program director for x-ray school. I hope this helps. GOOD LUCK!!

It's best for you to check with the colleges in your area that offer ultrasound programs to see what specific pre-reqs they need. My college requires at least an associate's degree and the following courses: anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, intermediate algebra, and a computer course.
You should go for an ultrasound school that's accredited. List of accredited schools can be found here: www.caahep.org
Good luck with your studies!

Talk to your guidence councelor. Every state and country have different qualifications. So no one can give you an accurate answer to your question unless we know where you are living.
Oh and dont listen to those a@@holes who put you down for being a young mom. I was one myself, a young single mom with no parents myself. I was just like you!! wanted to give my son a better life. It was extremely hard but look now, i have never been on welfare, worked my way through my education and I now have 3 diplomas all on my own. So congradulations on your drive and dont let anyone put you or knock you down. You are doing the right thing.
Best of luck, my wishes are with you

You will need to apply to and be accepted to a radiology program. There are 2 year associate degrees in this as well as 4 year bachelor degrees but you must qualify. You local college will have a catalog that lists the degrees available and what courses are required to get that degree.

Check with your local community colleges for an affordable certification program. You may be eligible for free tuition. Or call a couple of radiology offices and find out what they recommend.
Here's what's offered in Northern Virginia:
