Choose a pot large enough for the pasta to cook. Keep in mind pasta expands, as well.

Add a drop or two of oil to the water.

Wait until the water comes to a full boil before adding your pasta.

After the water boils, turn the heat down to med/high.

Allow enough cooking time, i.e. don't over or undercook. I give my pasta a stir after adding to the boiling water.

Fresh/homemade pasta needs less cooking time, than packaged/dry pasta.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. When you put the water in the pot, use hot water from the tap because it will boil faster (you can also add salt to the water to make it boil faster). Once it's boiling, add the pasta (if it is spaghetti, you can break it in half before putting it in so that it cooks evenly). Turn the burner down to medium/high so that the water doesn't boil over. Cook for about 9 minutes then take a piece of the pasta out with a spoon, run cool water over it for a few seconds, and taste it. If it's boiled enough, take the pasta off the burner and strain the water out. Now you can add butter, alfredo, red sauce, or anything else you might like. =]

Be sure to use a big pot. You need lots of water for pasta. Add some salt for seasoning, but I don't understand this nonsense about olive oil. Oil and water don't mix, so you just have an oil slick sitting on the surface.

The key, though, is to keep it boiling in plenty of salted water...usually 9-11 minutes for dried pasta and 2-3 for fresh.

I'm assuming you're cooking dry pasta.

If so, when the pot of water starts to boil, mix in a little bit of salt (tea spoon) in the boiling water. Then, drop the pasta in the water. Occasionally, you have to stir the pasta, while it cooks. This ensures that it doesn't stick together.

you need a bigger pot with more water, pastea needs alot of room to move around or it sticks. Also do not put the pasta in the water til it is boiling.
