Millions upon millions of people have been saved or will be saved from the use of condoms. Why are they against this? Are they putting religious beliefs before practicality?

Are they putting religious beliefs before practicality? Duh...:)

Of course they are. Like any other organization, they do things based on their own self-interest.
Their stated position is that any sex outside of monogamous marriage is sin and wrong, so there should be no need for condoms. That position, however, completely ignores the realities of human behavior.

Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years:
1. Single people should be celibate.
2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong).
3. Married couples should welcome God's gift of children and, therefore, artificial birth control was against the will of God.

If the world is going to ignore teachings about chastity (1 & 2), then why is the world so upset about teaching artificial birth control (3)?

People who are already ignoring the more important teachings about chastity (1 and 2) should have no problem ignoring the less important teaching of artificial birth control (3).

Even if an infected person was to use a condom to help protect his or her spouse, condoms are not 100% effective (read the box) and the spouse may be infected and die anyway. A person who truly loves their spouse would not endanger them in this way.

With love in Christ.

Well yes they just seem to have their values mixed up and their priorities wrong on a rather large scale!
I think they need bringing into the 21st century but that's going to be very difficult to do with the Pope's PR people and the scientists who support him and the RC religion preaching that condoms have tiny holes so you may as well not use them to 3rd world countries like sub Saharan Africa...............
So of course their putting religious beliefs before modern day practicality.

Did Mother Theresa save lives? Do you know how much is spent every year on aid to the poorest countries in the world from the Catholic Church? Do you know how big the HIV virus is in comparison to the fibers of a condom? You should look this stuff up maybe

Well if people didn't have sex before marriage, then we wouldn't have the problem... And you wouldn't have to ask such a question. God comes first, God is the maker of the Catholic church, so yes religion is first. Practicality was linked with religion before the world went down the mudslide. Don't assume things before you have all the facts, you are making accusations when you don't understand the Catholic church.... tell me, is your ignorance bliss?

Though not a follower of any organised religion I have studied the Catholic Church in depth, and I say no. It is religious and moral beliefs they are putting in front of people. Many in Africa are chosing to disregard Chruch Doctrine on promiscuity, and sex outside of marriage and this is spreading the diseases. If you want to have many sexual partners do what many Catholics do in the western world and ignore the condom teaching too!! If people are picking and chosing which doctrines to abide by they should do so with common sense.

All the catholic church believes in is controlling people, stealing from the poor and vulnerable to line their own pockets, preaching absolute outdated rubbish. Its an outdated institution that needs to be abolished.
They are definitely putting religion beliefs before practicality and by doing this they are jeopardising their followers health. Why people can't see this I will never know

Essentially, say yes: they are putting religious beliefs before practicality. According to the RC Church, anything that prevents a guy's 'swimmers' from entering the girl, or prevents the girl's 'fishing pond' from accepting the swimmers, they are commiting a sin. However, the problem isn't with the details, it's the flawed theology behind the doctrine. Upholding a doctrine is fine, if that doctrine is TRULY biblical.

If you look at the percentage of the population in African countries that have AIDS, you will see that the lowest percentage is in Uganda, a country where there is a strong program promoting abstinance.. The vast majority of Ugandans are catholic.
