my fiance and i just moved into a new townhouse (renting) and he may have a warrant for child support, can the police find him somehow by him being on the lease?

Most landlords purchase the services of companies that conduct background checks. Anytime a persons name appears on a legal document such as a lease it is possible to trace them. Considering finding men who don't pay child support tends to be low priority for the police I would not worry about them tracking him down for it.

There is no database that I am aware of for landlords to enter the tenant's names for police to look up.

Some do background checks, and if the landlord found the warrant, he might not rent to you.

I HIGHLY recommend that your fiance go directly to the courthouse and straighten out the situation...If he's being proactive about it, they're not likely to put him in jail. Additionally, most child support issues are civil, not criminal, which means that jail time wouldn't be appropriate anyway. Tell him it's time to be a man, and face his responsibilities.

Police can find him anywhere. The landlord might not want to rent to you if he has an outstanding warrant. His best bet would be to contact the child support recovery and stop running from them. Cooperating will have a much better outcome for him.

I hope they do. He is obviously a dead beat dad. I mean, he's not willing to support his children! That, more than anything, is the father's role. I hope you don't have kids together, or he probably won't support them either. Good luck and doesn't it suck when you've got all these custody court issues cropping up all the time. That's why I'm never marrying a guy that has kids unless they're grown or the mother is dead (not killed by him, that would be scary)!

perhaps, he should really take care of that warrant. If he ever gets a job they will garnish his wages.

Some do background checks but no law says they have to.
