The only plasterboard that may be used in bethrooms which would last for a long time is the Humid resistant class, these can be regognised by thier green colour. In order to be more secure and literally close off all chances that any moisture is absorbed by the board, once the boards where fitted in and plastered I applied 2 coats of seler ( water based acrylic sealer) and sealed the bottomand top joint with white silicon sealer(the type that comes in a tube ) good luck

You can use standard plasterboard on the walls & ceiling, I would advise a skim and coat of paint before subjecting to steam etc. If you are tiling a shower or around a bath you may be better using aquapanel or backerboard available from B&Q etc. This has a greater resistance to moisture.

Backerboard - it is like plasterboard but has more of a cement backing to this to resist water

You may want to consider greenboard. It is a little bit more expensive, but will take water a whole lot better than regular drywall. It is also the color green, but works great in kitchens and bathrooms where there is alot of water.

Use Green board (green faced drywall). Do not use green board in the shower or bathtub area. Use concrete backer board around a shower enclosure and then tile over the backer board. Happy remodelling...

Use the greenboard in the dry areas, it's only a couples of bucks more a sheet, and in the wet areas I like to use a product called Dens-Shield.

The drywall that is a pale green is made for this purpose. Prime with Kilz or Zenzir primer.
