my standard poodle, charlie, is very picky with his food. we feed him Wellness, which is a great diet, but he won't eat it except for just taking a few bites. We have tried switching his food and he only seems to want human food. He is getting so skinny that it's scary. What do you suggest as a good, hearty food that is healthy for standard poodles? How old is he and have you ever had him tested for Addisons Disease?? Do a search if you don't know about it.
It is very common with Standard Poodles and one of the signs is low appetite and weight loss. This would be the FIRST thing I would have checked out.
I have a Standard who is real thin (but he has always been thin) and we had him checked for Addisons. Thankfully it was negative. But the only way I can keep weight on him is to feed him a High Energy food along with a can of canned food and some cottage cheese.
But, just to rule it out, I would strongly suggest having him checked or Addisons.

I had a dog that was like that. Basically don't feed table food and your dog will get hungry enough to eat his food. A vet told me that!
