what exactly is an atheist. I have an idea of what the definiton means but I do not want to assume anything out of respect. Now if it means to not believe in god, then do you have faith of any kind.
Please explain to me
I am a mother of 2, and I have faith in myself, I believe in the manifestation of my own world, and that the word god is just a definition to imply the complex meaning of what more is beyond our own existance

Atheism is not a religion in the sense that Christianity, Islam, and, Judaism are. Atheism is not generally perceived as offering a complete guideline for living as do most religions.
Atheism is confined to one factor: the existence or non-existence of a deity.
Atheism can involve the positive assertion that there is no deity. This is sometimes referred to as "strong Atheism." It is the most common dictionary definition for the term "Atheist."
Atheism can be the absence of a belief that there is a deity. This is the belief promoted by the American Atheists group and many individual Atheists.
Each atheist has a personal moral code. However, it is generally derived from secular considerations, and not from any "revealed" religious text.

Atheisim is believing their is no god.

There is no faith involved in this. One simply believes there is no god.

"God," is a very relative term. It can be used to describe many things and entities. Some believe god is within, some believe god is the universe, some believe god is an invisible man that knows and sees everything you ever can and will do and some choose not to believe in it at all.

An atheist simply does not believe in the existence of any "god" or super being that created the world, controls any part of it, or takes any interest in it.

Unless you answer "yes" to the following question, you are an atheist; "Do you positively affirm the existence of any gods?"

There are no other implications to the word "atheist" beyond that. Note that most who call themselves agnostic are actually atheists since "I don't know" is not the same as "yes".

According to http://www.objectgraph.com/dictionary/ an atheist is One who disbelieves or denies the existence of a God, or supreme intelligent Being.

So it sounds to me like you are a spiritual atheist - someone who has a sense of the sacred and the unknowable, but not someone who believes in a (wo)man-like intelligent being who created or controls the universe, or is somehow entitled to worship.

An agnostic, just so you know, is someone who is not sure if god exists or not.

Simply lack of faith in a god/supreme being. Being an atheist does not qualify you from having your own spirituality.

ETA: Manifestation of your own world, hmm? I'd love to talk with you more...

An atheist is one who does not believe in the existence of a deity.

Some atheists believe in spiritual things, but many do not.

Atheism is the disbelief in the existence of deities,[1][2] and more specifically in the monotheistic Judeo-Christian God.[3] It is most commonly defined as the explicit, positive rejection of theism;[4][5] however, numerous atheistic philosophers and groups prefer to define atheism as the simple absence of belief in deities (cf. nontheism), thus designating people who have never heard of God, such as small children or certain tribal peoples, as atheists as well.[6] Theological agnosticism is commonly contrasted with the former, narrower definition, as a position of uncertainty or indecision between atheism and theism; on the other hand, under the latter, broader definition, many agnostics qualify as atheists. The former defines atheism positively, as the belief that no gods exist; the latter, however, defines atheism negatively, as the lack of belief in gods. In recent years, some atheists have adopted the terms strong atheism for the former and weak atheism for the latter to clarify whether they consider their stance one of positive belief or of negative unbelief.

Although many self-described atheists share common skeptical concerns regarding empirical evidence for spiritual or supernatural claims, citing a lack of evidence for the existence of deities, explicit atheism is inspired by a variety of rationales, ranging from the personal to the philosophical to the social to the historical. Additionally, while there is a tendency among those who identify themselves as atheists toward secular philosophies such as humanism, naturalism and materialism, there is no single ideology that all atheists adhere to, nor does atheism have any institutionalized rituals or behaviors.[7]

Although atheism is very often equated with irreligion or nonspirituality in Western culture,[8] not all atheists are necessarily irreligious or nonspiritual. Some religious and spiritual beliefs, such as several forms of Buddhism, have even been described by outside observers as atheistic (under the broader, negative definition of atheism) due to their lack of any participating deities.[9] Atheism is also sometimes erroneously equated with antitheism (opposition to theism) or antireligion (opposition to religion), despite many atheists not holding such views.

Hi, my name is Eunice Saunders. Atheism is a doctrine that states that nothing exists but natural phenomena (matter), that thought is a property or function of matter, and that death irreversibly and totally terminates individual organic units. This definition means that there are no forces, phenomena, or entities which exist outside of or apart from physical nature, or which transcend nature, or are “super” natural, nor can there be. Humankind is on its own.

However I believe it is imposible to believe in "nothing"! Just like the birds have to fly south in the winter every human being is programed to believe "something"! It is our nature...we have no choise....the choise that we do have is "what we believe." You have stated that you believe in "yourself" so you have made yourself your god! Can you save yourself or your children? I am not being flip or mean....just asking you to take another look at what you do believe.

According to some people, there are many so-called gods and many lords, both in heaven and on earth.

But we know that there is only one God, the Father, who created everything, and we exist for him. And there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom God made everything and through whom we have been given life.

This next part comes from the Bible...Isa...God Speaking:
Time and again I warned you about what was going to happen in the future. Then suddenly I took action, and all my predictions came true.

"I know how stubborn and obstinate you are. Your necks are as unbending as iron. You are as hardheaded as bronze.

That is why I told you ahead of time what I was going to do. That way, you could never say, `My idols did it. My wooden image and metal god commanded it to happen!'

You have heard my predictions and seen them fulfilled, but you refuse to admit it. Now I will tell you new things I have not mentioned before, secrets you have not yet heard.

So will I choose their delusions,
And bring their fears on them;
Because, when I called, no one answered,
When I spoke they did not hear;
But they did evil before My eyes,
And chose that in which I do not delight."

God bless you and keep you and help you to believe in more than yourself! Thanks, Eunice

an atheist is someone who actively doesn't believe in any god. this is different than an agnostic, someone who doesn't believe in any god because he has seen no evidence for it but who hasn't ruled out the possibility; and from an ignostic, someone who believes the question of god is an irrelevant one because it cannot be proven either way.
