I don't celebrate Diwali Dhamaka, but I understand the festival of lights is a beautiful celebration for the Hindu goddess Laksmi. People clean the entire house with fragrant soaps, dress in new clothes after an perfumed oil bath, and light diyas. The goddess is supposed to visit each house and brings good luck, success and fortune. It's also a time to celebrate good conquering evil. I forget when it is, though. I celebrate Samhain (Halloween). This is our (pagan) new year. A time to honor the passing year, ancestors, and to look within to begin whatever spiritual changes we would like to make. So, happy Samhain and saal mubarak (I hope that is how you say Happy New Year!).
