If they fought on their peaks, I'd still go with Holyfield. He's a much better and technical boxer. Also one of the hardest chins in boxing and biggest heart. Tyson couldn't even beat Buster Douglas in his prime. Holyfield beat him decisively and easily.

Everybody has their "bogeyman". Ali - Norton being prime example. when both men were at their peak Holyfield would win. He was clinical and his heart is bigger than the sum of his talent. Tyson, in my opinion, would be stopped by Holyfield at their peak, in the later rounds. Tyson was, and probably still is, a bully, with a bully mentality - when it's not going his way he'll quit! Holyfield is a true champion.

Leslie C ~
In my opinion, If Evander "The Real Deal" Holyfield fought "Iron" Mike Tyson ten times, Evander would beat him nine out of the ten, some fighters just have your number and as Holyfield has PROVEN he had Mikes number, especially if we're talking about the two of these fighters in their primes. There would be one major problem though, Evander was in his prime when he was a Cruiser-weight, but lets just say it was after Holyfield moved up to Heavyweight and got accustomed to fighting bigger guys.
It has always been my contention that Tyson loved hitting people but never liked getting hit back and the one thing that Evander is legendary for is fighting back. There's another thing that a young in his prime Tyson used to his advantage was the Intimidation Factor everyone that stepped into the ring against Tyson was scared to death, Henry Tillman actually almost passed out from fear in his corner before they fought, this would not work on a young Holyfield, Heck it didn't work on an older Holyfield.
Mike Tyson as a young Heavyweight was indeed impressive but Evander knew exactly how to beat Tyson, he said it from the very first time these two were suppose to fight each other, Evander said "I can beat Mike Tyson, I have no fear of this man. There's certain things he does that I can exploit" and he did.
Mike always has a punchers chance but Evander had the much better skills and proved not once, but twice he could handle anything Mike could do.
Thanks for the fantasic question Leslie.

I am tempted to say yes, Mike in the 80's was lika a Tsunami, but his defensive capabilities were the same before he went to prison and after he came out and beat Frank Bruno to win the WBC title and there is an old boxing adage which says 'that a good boxer would always beat a good fighter'...Mike was ouutsmarted by Evander in both his fights, but Holyfield faced a Tyson who was not as good as Mike Tyson 1985-90.

When Tyson was at his peak in 1991 he was an animal. He was an absolute beast. Holyfield has been (and always will be) smarter than Tyson, but he would have been destroyed if he had faced him then.
The trouble with Iron Mike is that he could only hold it together for a very short time. He surrounded himself with the wrong people and he can not make good decisions on his own.

It would have ben a good Match.
But remember when Holyfield was hand picked by Tyson in their first fight thinking that Holyfield is an Easier Opponent than Lewis.
Nobody give Holyfield a fighting Chance against Iron Mike.
Holyfield just recover from a Heart Ailment when he faced Tyson and Tyson Looks very indestructible prior to the fight. So Holyfield was not in his Prime Either.
But if they meet in their Prime, I think Holyfields Heart and Exceptional Boxing skills would Tame the Beast that is Iron Mike.
I say Holyfield UD 12.

I believe Tyson would have beat Holyfield at his peak because his first manager was like a father to Tyson and Tyson respected Him.It was when he died that Tyson went bad.Tyson had hands like bowling balls.

No Freeking Way. Holyfield was beyound his peak at the same time of their first fight, just lighter. If anybody has step in the ring long enough to know that a boxer is alwayys better than a puncher. 80% of Tyson"s opponents were big old heavy slobs. I could give you five names that would beat tyson at their peak. So don't blame peaks on Tyson"s losses.

I have to laugh at this would've, could've, should've about Tyson. When Holyfield kicked the overrated Tyson's a**, Tyson WAS supposedly at his peak, coming off a one round destruction of Bruce Seldon.
Holyfield, conversely, was older, supposedly less skilled and a 25-1 underdog.
Tyson was always overrated, and was exposed by Holyfield.
