I have given the cats 2 flea baths, bug-bombed the house, sprinkled flea killer on the carpet, and my husband still insists that we have fleas. He has locked the cats in their room until the fleas are for sure gone. Should I hire an exterminator?

I would steam clean my carpets really well and then I sprayed Raid (purple can) made just for fleas into my carpet. Plus use a product such as Frontline on the cats.

Make sure you put a preventative on your cat. Advantage works well. I don't like to use it continually as it is a nerve toxin. Zodiac will break the flea life cycle as well. A carpet spray made by Zodiac works...wash all bedding in hot water.

You also need to treat your yard. A company called fleabusters has a powder for indoors and a nematode that you water into your yard that eats flea eggs etc. That way you don't need to dump flea pesticides all over your plants, and it's completely non toxic.

Depending on the climate where you live, you may need to put a preventative year round, or just during the spring and fall.

They may already be gone. A lot of pests infestations make you kind of paranoid. I did that for years after my daughter caught lice somewhere.

Go to vets and get 'advantage' ( you don't even have to bring your cats)apply 1 dosage on the back of their necks were they can't lick. It'll kill fleas on them in 12 hours and last a month. Throw out the old vacum cleaner bag and in the new one put a large flea collar in it. that will kill the fleas you suck up. I would be careful of harsh chemicals you use, they might harm your cats or yourself. I think an exterminator is very extreme. ask your vet about other alternatives

Honestly, there is something you can do. You can go to the store and get boric acid. You might have to ask around for it but when no one is home and your pets are isolated sprinkle it in your carpet leave it for an hour and vaccuum. If that sounds too strenuous go to the insectiside section and buy the bombs just for fleas. They both work pretty well.
My veterinarian also told me to not bath them in flea shampoo, cats or dogs, it can cause them to have seizures.

The most important this is to get your cats on a monthly flea drop like revolution, frontline, or advantage. (I like revolution the best) Every flea that comes in contact with the cats will die. eventually they will all die, because fleas can't live on human blood alone. If you want them gone right away, you can get flea bombs, one for every room. Get the kind that kills the eggs and larvae too. get all the cats and other pets out, cover any fish taks TIGHTLY and bomb the place.

One way to see if you still have fleas is to get a night-light and under the night light put a dish of water(I use a pie pan) that has a few drops of dishsoap in it. The fleas are attracted to the light and jump in the water and die. you might want to empty out your vaccum cleaner bag because they can get out of them and re-infest your house.

My in-laws have a problem with fleas and they do not believe me but I am the one with bites all over me. Everytime we go there I spray my clothes (especially my shoes, socks and legs) with anti-flea spray (found in the camping area at wal-mart).

Go to your lawyer and have him write up eviction notices for all the fleas!.....LOL just kidding but really yes you should that is what exterminators are for and if you have tried all these other things and they have not worked then i would say yes it is time to call a professional to come do the job!!!

Bomb your house & then rebomb 10 days later Be sure you have the right bombs for footage of your home.
Then get some flea meds from the vet & apply to your cats.
