I am using an Olympus E-Volt 500 with the white balance set to auto. I am using the built-in flash until I purchase a separate flash attachment.

There's a discussion on this topic at Yahoo! Groups:

There's also a firmware update for the E-500 (v1.2) to improve the performance when using the built-in flash.

I've noticed this too, with other digital cameras in certain lighting conditions. I've never seen a formal explanation anywhere, but somebody commented to me that it can be attributed to "what the camera sees is not what the camera sees..."

Sometimes white walls and clothes get a bluish cast with my prints, and it's obvious in the camera's preview screen. If so, I have the camera reset its "white balance."

I am only an amateur but in my experience, the issue is with the balance settings (white saturation). Best I could come up with, I hope it helps. Try dropping the level a notch, see what happens.
