Across the world some 125 million people - up to 3% of the worlds population - suffer from psoriasis, a serious skin condition that can cause debilitating discomfort and distress, I am one of these people. Approximately 23% of these people - that's 28 million - go on to develop painful psoriatic arthritis. Quality of Life (QoL) research shows that people with psoriasis have almost the same reduction in QoL as people with diseases such as cancer, diabetes, or depression. Psoriasis can even lead some patients to consider suicide as the only alternative they have.
Better diagnosis and treatment of psoriasis is needed now to alleviate the suffering of many millions of people around the world who are not getting the help they need.
I believe that the World Health Organisation (WHO) must take urgent action to recognise psoriasis as a serious disease deserving international attention. By doing so, the WHO will increase the possibilities for people with psoriasis to gain access to appropriate care and treatment.
With this in mind, please could you take your time to add your name to the online petition at

My absolute pleasure to sign the petition but much more importantly is that you had the foresight to bring it to other's attention!
You know, there are SO many worthy causes to get involved with, even if it's just recognizing them by caring and bothering to learn. You've done a great and wonderful thing by hilighting this to us. Thank you!
I wish you all the very best as you deal with psoriasis and hope that you are not only able to convince people of how important it is to get involved but that you are able to find some relief for yourself.
All the very best. :)

The World Health Organization should have more important things on their agenda: treating the malnurished children in poverty countries, for example. Finding some sort of way to reduce cancer and AIDS, for example. Psoriasis is a very serious condition, I'm sure, but perhaps a smaller organization could do more.

I'll have to think about it. Having psoriasis myself, along with clinical depression, it seems that the depression is much more pressing. (It's not related to the psoriasis)
With all of the contageous diseases, such as HIV and all of the other pressing conditions that need to be dealt with, EEE, West Nile Virus, birth rates, etc, they really have their hands full.
Also, most people with Psoriasis don't develop the worst of the symptoms. For most, it's confined to scalp, elbows and such. That doesn't diminish it's effect on those with more serious problems, but it's just that it isn't as serious a problem as many of the things the WHO is already dealing with.

I have psoriatic arthritis, it is the most painful and uncomfortable thing I will ever have to live with. It makes you tired, achey, itchey and extremely swollen. I have had this since I was 11, and I am now 27. It effects everything in my life, from the easiest things. I have signed your petition and think you are a star for bringing it to everyones attention, its not nice, trust me! Thanks hun!!!

Certainly. One more voice to the throng always helps. A worthy cause and an under estimated condition which can I am sure cause a lot of unseen problems ranging from the obvious to things like depression, stress, lack of confidence, low esteem etc... Count me in!!
