The bible does not say that. It said the Jews should not mix with the canaanites, but that was based on spiritual differences, not racial ones. You might point out to your mother that Moses was apparently married to a woman of a different race (based on Miriam and Aaron's reaction: Numbers 12:1 Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite.) If God had a problem with this, he had plenty of chances to bring it to Moses's attention, they spoke face to face on several occasions.

This is a lie.
The Bible does NOT say that races should not mix.
What the Bible DOES say (to believers), is that they should not be "yoked with unbelievers". At the very least, this means that a believer should not marry a non-believer. (See 2 Corinthians 6:14)
This is a Biblical concept to the very core. The Lord God would have us worship Him...and only Him - to have "no other gods" before Him. (See Exodus 20:3)
In other words, we are not to "yoke" ourselves to idols. So, the Hebrews were told not to marry non-Hebrews. But this was only to prevent the adulterous worship of other 'gods', as non-Hebrews worshipped other 'gods'...and if you marry someone that worships other gods, you sort of condone such worship and are often led to do the same. This is what got the Lord really angry with the Israelites.
But even so, if a foreigner (or non-Hebrew) started worshipping the Lord, then such marriage was OK by God and the Bible. The perfect example of this would be Ruth, who was not a Hebrew, but worshipped the Hebrew God, the Lord. (See the book of Ruth)
Nowadays, through Jesus Christ, God has opened the door of salvation to Jews and non-Jews. That is, to Hebrews and non-Hebrews. However, it is still all and only through Jesus Christ.
But Biblically speaking (from God's perscpective), it is absolutely acceptable for a believer of one race to marry a believer of another race. Your momma and the others are simply misinformed or misguided. Perhaps they mean well, but they are the ones that are speaking things that are not Biblical.
We are all ONE in Christ Jesus, whether male or female, Greek or Jew, black or white, etc, etc....(see Galatians 3:23)
Hope this helps...and that your momma and others start seeing more clearly...

I'm sorry, but I have to use both of those bad words in my answer. I've heard people say the same thing, but I've read a lot of the Bible- I mean almost all of it- and I've never seen the part they are talking about. All of the people who have told me this were ignorant racists who thought I would just believe them instead of checking for myself. Ignorant people often assume that other people are as ignorant as they are.
You could actually find places in the Bible where God wants the Jews to stay Jewish, but I didn't want to mention that because it will make me sound like a racist and I'm not. Either way, asking this question might get you some chapters and verses to look at and you should look at them for yourself so you can know what's what and who's who in the Bible and then other people can't tell you stuff that isn't true anymore.

No, the Bible never says anywhere that races shouldn't mix. I, unfortunately, also know some people who think the same way and they get their ideas from 1st Corinthians 6:
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
(KJV)
Maybe in other Bible versions it's not spelled out as clearly, which is why I like using the KJV. You can plainly see God wasn't talking about races, rather He was talking about faith. 2 Samuel 14:14 says God doesn't respect one person above another, and I think that includes people with different skin color. My husband happens to be half Spanish and is a sweet, wonderful Christian. Nowhere at all does the Bible say races shouldn't mix.

There is nothing in the Bible about races not mixing.
The only text is that Jews should not marry non-Jews. That comes from the Torah and was an issue because of the belief that you cannot follow God's rules if you do not follow them in every aspect. Your partner would not help you follow those rules and therefore you would not be obeying God.
Anyone can misinterpret the Bible in any way that they want. They can then make any statement they want.
There should be no reason for anyone to degrade you for having interracial babies, especially since God created all people. No one is better than anyone else.
Take care,
Troy

I have read the Bible through several times and I have never encounter a verse that says that races should not mix. Moses was married to some what not of his race. This is some thing that society has determined. People recommend that you do not marry outside of your race because society would not accept it and your children will have a hard time in life accepting.

Revelations 7:9, 10 proves just the opposite. It refers to "a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne of God." This proves that God is not racist, so why should we be?
However, 2 Corinthians 6:14 gives the advice not to marry outside of the lord - meaning not to marry anyone who is an unbeliever. If your mother was referring to the times of Exodus and Leviticus, God only told them not to marry into the other nations because they worshiped other Gods and they would be, then, marrying an unbeliever.

There was a lot of xenophobia during the restiration period after the Babylonian exile. The books of Ezra and Nehemiah reflect some of this but the post-exilic prophets Haggai and Zechariah are the most vocal about the subject. The object of their hate were the Samaritans, whom they considered impure. (Families were broken up and people were deported over this.) And I think it was Obadiah who had a thing against locusts, whatever they represented. People read into these books what they want, unfortunately. Just remember what Jesus said about Samaritans.

You're mother is attempting to use a misconstrued view of God's commands to force you to accept and follow her opinions. God told the Israelites not to intermarry with other tribes, some of which would be considered "the same race", in order to prevent the influence of other religions on the tribe of Israel. The command was never against different races.

Aboslutely not!!!!
There are verses that tell the *Israelites* not to intermarry, but this was because back in OT times, race/culture was VERY closely tied to religion. If an Israelite married a gentile, he/she was more likely to turn to follow the spouse's pagan religion. This is what the Bible says happened to King Solomon.
However, those verses ARE NOT applicable today, nor were they EVER applicable to gentiles - only to Jews. God loves you and your children!
