There's a chance that the cough is due to his heart problem- if his heart is enlarged it may be putting pressure on his airways. He may also have pulmonary oedema (fluid on his lungs, as Erica M mentioned) because of his heart.

If he's got a moist cough, don't give him more cough syrup without talking to a vet (don't give human meds without a vet's advice anyway), as you'll be stopping him from coughing up any fluid.

I think it's time to see a different vet. It sounds as though he's likely to be distressed by this and probably you are too. If they want to put him on lasiks, ask about his blood results...it's a good idea to check the state of his kidneys before putting him onto diuretics or heart meds for that matter. If he needs the meds, he needs the meds, but it's nice to know what you're dealing with.

Well I would get a second or third opinion. Im wondering who told you to give that medicine to the dog? You could be giving him too much and he is having a REBOUND effect. Meaning that once the medicine wears off the cough comes back even if there is no reason for the cough. Ths coughing my have caused the seisure. Because he was coughing so hard.
I would also recomend that you find one vet and stick with them. Ask your friends and family who they trust with thier pets. Hell even call the state university.

Sounds like hes having some fluid on his lungs from the heart murmur. Ask the vet about getting him some lasiks to ease that fluid off of his chest to make him more comfortable - otherwise he is basically going to drown in his own fluids. Lasiks are pretty cheap also, not a very expensive medication - but it will make him want to urinate more.
Do NOT accept the answer that he is fine... he is not fine if he was diagnosed with a heart murmur.

You didn't say how old the dog was. If he is a new puppy, 8-10wks old he could have a virus. The seizure could have been caused by hypoglycemia(low blood sugar) You HAVE to get another opinion about his heart murmur. Don't wait! Make an appointment right away!!

I just took my Pom to my vet last week She was coughing + she had had a seizure. My vet checked her out good(been going to him 20 yrs) He Dx her with-congestive heart failure. Holding the head up to breath b/c the lungs has fluid in them.
YOU NEED TO HAVE A NOTHER VET CHECK YOUR DOG OUT.

if he's in pain, it's best to have him humanely euthanized
