It's very brave of daddy to sign up, but how inconvenient as Ricahrd and I are about to attend a museum exhibition with cheese and wine. It might be too late when we come to collect him, and I daren't ask Onslow to collect him in broad daylight as Mrs. Barker-Finch might see them. Is he still British?

How very brave of your daddy to join the legion. Why not ask Violet to collect your daddy in the Mercedes? That way Mrs. Barker-Finch would be impressed!

Yes he is still British, but providing they dont kill him or bugger him to death in the desert, he will become entitled to a French passport and nationality if he wishes to become a full time garlic cruncher.

The real question should be "Daddy has gone to join the French Foreign Legion, did he rob a bank?"

It depends if he is a wanted criminal or not, in which case they will give him a new idenetity and no one will ever find him again.
If not then no he will have to renounce his Britishness.
Tell Mrs Barker-Finch someone has been disresepcting her muffins at the fete and she should go and sort them out. While she is out of the way you can sneak him back.

He's still Brit. Have your sister the collect him you the one in the short mini skirt, blond hair about 40 years old? That is untouched by the Queen's fleet.

Please, let us Yanks borrow him. We'll put him on our southern boarder with weapons and he can run the show!

of course he is Mrs bouquet, he was once a great power in painting by numbers circles remember, anyway ask your sister Violet, i seem to recall you may have mentioned that she has a new Mercedes, swimming pool and wasn't there room for a pony?I'm sure that would be socially acceptable for daddy to be seen in Violet's Mercedes.
