My brother is exactly the same..apart from the shoplifting..it would be hard to call the police about your family but no doubt if its in the paper someone else will have seen it and do it for you..if it is him maybe this will do him good... someone in jail could talk to him like a counsellor and help him with his depression..there is not a lot you can do until he asks for help....my brother is getting there so will yours.

Whatever you do, do not go behind his back. If he has a problem, he needs to be willing to confront it himself, and you will merely be further isolating him by trying to turn him in to the police.
If he's refusing to talk, might I request a written note in private, perhaps with a copy of the newspaper clipping? Make it clear to him that you just want to know what it's about rather than threatening any kind of action. Be prepared for a backlash (possibly even physical) if you do, though I think it would do him a world of good if you can handle that. If that fails, perhaps getting a mutual friend and/or trusted relative to help out would be the next port of call, but do not attempt to play cop by yourself.

Your brother will eventually be caught if it is him in the newspaper so don't worry yourself to much we all have to learn a lesson in life and we have to do it on our own. Just be thier for him when and if he is caught. we all need family so maybe doing a little time might be what he needs to start to listen to the hand that is reaching out to him and that of course will be you. Good Luck

Don't call the police as you don't want to get your brother locked up if it wasn't him. Gently say to your brother that you saw a poster of someone that looked like him wanting for shoplifting, and you were worried it might be him. He will probably react angrily and deny it. Just tell him that he's your brother and you love him whatever, and you're there for him if/when we needs you.

Ask him if he was involved in shoplifting. If he was involved, talk to your parents first, and see what they can do to solve this issue. My best bet is to turn him into the police, and have him arrested. Your brother should know the difference between right and wrong and its up to you and your family to do the right thing.

show him what you saw in the paper...ask if it's him, see how he responds...i am not saying shop him, but find out why he's acting strange....he may be worried about getting caught, it may not even be him, it could be someone wh resembles him...shoplifting is wrong but it's not half as bad as harming someone or armed robbery...find out where his head is at before the police come knocking at your door...someone else may recognise him and tell the cops

if you report him he may get the help he sounds like he needs...if not the next time he hits the papers it could be for something a lot worse

There are many people who resemble someone else. Unless you know for sure, do nothing.
