I'm an aspiring FA and what to know what you, the customer, want and expect in terms of customer service while you're in the air. Tips? Suggestions? As a Flight Attendant, what could I do to make your trip terrific and ensure a memorable flight?

As a frequent flier, I would want my FA's to take more control of the passengers, especially during boarding. I frequently encounter people who either do not know the rules or do not care to follow them. Common courtesies go out the window. A really great example is stowing bags; if you help infrequent travellers to stow their bags in the overhead bins in the most efficient manner, it would speed up boarding for everyone. Not everyone knows the "wheels in, handle out" method for putting your rollaboard up! But it takes just as long to put it that way as it does to stow it long-ways... after the plane is half-full, the bins are completely full, and boarding grinds to a halt. If you can help all the passengers make each flight an efficient one, I think that would be the best service. I might be glad for an extra smile here and there but it means nothing if I am already cranky from having to spend 35 minutes to board the plane.

1) SMILE!

2) Greet premium pax by name, if you have the manifest. It makes all the world.

3) Pay special attention to small children, they (and the parents... and the people around them) will love it.

4) Please be assertive in enforcing airline policy. E.g., 1 carryon and 1 personal item means just that. You may upset that one pax (who is likely the once-a-year flyer), but if you don't, you will upset more than one of the other ones, especially if they're frequent flyers.

5) PLEASE don't hide in the galley after service doing a crossword puzzle or reading a magazine. Taking a break is one thing, but we can sense when you just want to get the bev/meal service over with so you can go hide.

6) No loud gossiping. Quietly, if you must. Or we're in on it too.

7) Try not to bump our seats as you're going down the aisle, or use them to lean on. We can feel it.

8) Leave the foul mood at home if you can... or at least don't take it out on us. You may have a bad day, but we don't know that, or even if we do, it's irrelevant.

9) Finally, please be truthful! If you know why our flight is delayed, don't tell us "10 more minutes."

10) SMILE!

(1) Don't be surly and sour looking. Fly on Southwest and learn how their FAs operate - then copy their behavior and teach it to other airlines. Don't take yourself so seriously. Lighten up the mood on the plane.
(2) Encourage (FORCE) passengers to place smaller carry-ons under the seat so the overhead has more space for larger items.

Give out free drinks to everyone on days of the week that end in "Y".

smile more! i mean i know it's a pain when people are stupid and don't put their seat upright and ignore the seatbelt sign to go to the bathroom.....but the other customers can sometimes see your frustration....sooo, pretend to be happy!
